The quality of our products begins in the field. At Crops Import & Export we grow our potatoes and sweet potatoes on agricultural land located in the municipality of Teguise, on the island of Lanzarote, where the characteristics of the soil and climatic conditions favor the development of crops of excellent quality.
Location of the crops
Our crops are located at Camino Los Chícharos, Plot 8, Parcel 713, Peñas de Susana, Teguise (Lanzarote), an agricultural area recognized for its jable and sanded lands, ideal for growing tubers.
Potato cultivation
The cultivation process begins with land preparation and the selection of certified seed potatoes with sprouts, guaranteeing a homogeneous and high-quality production. The seeds are planted at a depth of approximately 15 centimeters, respecting the appropriate distance between plants and rows to favor optimal development. During plant growth, hilling is carried out, an agricultural technique that consists of accumulating soil around the base to protect the tubers from light and encourage greater production. Drip irrigation maintains constant soil moisture, optimizing water consumption and favoring healthy crop development.
Sweet potato cultivation
The sweet potato is cultivated using cuttings, a system that favors uniform plant development. This crop requires sandy, well-drained soils and direct sun exposure, conditions naturally offered by the agricultural environment of Lanzarote. The cuttings are planted at a shallow depth on loose soil ridges, facilitating tuber growth. During the initial phase, constant moisture is maintained to encourage rooting, and later, moderate irrigations allow balanced plant development. Ground control and cleaning during the first months guarantee a healthy crop until harvest time.
